Low light shooting

Image
I couldn't use a flash and at that distance the on board flash would have been useless. So, what to do? I wanted a shot of the president of the college I work for and knew that the light conditions would pose a challenge. I could not even move closer for the shot. So I thought I would try a shot at ISO6400. The camera I have is not known for high ISO and I try to stay away from anything over 1600 because the sensor size is a bit of a limitation. But, I think the results after being cleaned up a little in Phase One, Capture One are not bad, not prize-winning but not bad. EPL-2 F/5.6, 1/30 sec. ISO-6400 45mm, no flash

This particular lens is proving hard to get. I have had an order in to one of my favorite online retailers, a company that said to be the biggest supplier of Zuiko lenses for Olympus Cameras in Canada and I still have not received it. A search of other retailers online results in the same story, unavailable or back-ordered. In my years of purchasing lenses online I have never had to wait this long. Is it a good lens...yes!. Is it a great lens...maybe! It is probably one of the best lenses that Olympus has in its already complete line of lenses for M43 cameras. I am prepared to wait a week more and we'll see what happens. The photography forum groups suggest that I go to an Ebay supplier which I am reluctant to do, trusting the major retailers instead. The photo includes the lens hood which I have also ordered along with a clear glass "filter".

We visited some folks in Yarmouth Nova Scotia this past week (June 7-8th) and stayed at the Lovitt B&B near the centre of the town. We absolutely loved the place. We stayed in a front room which is on the upper floor, right side. We had supper at the popular Rutter's Pub (you have to try their Blonde Rock beer) and then a quiet and  peaceful night followed by a wonderful home-cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage served by Proprietor, Twyla. We even met a couple by the name of Boudreau from Louisiana, USA, who were in Nova Scotia to explore their family roots. Lovitt House is definitely a repeat visit for us. Taken with an Olympus EPL-2 with a 14-45 lens.

Audi Coupe GT 1982

Image
I have had this car since it was new. It is a Surinam Red 5 cylinder, 5-speed 1982 Audi Coupe that was purchased in the early fall of 1982 from Carriage Motors in Calgary Alberta. Over the years it has spent most of its time tucked into the back wall of my garage getting very little use and in some years no use at all. My son, who also has an Audi, wants me to get this thing on the road. Well, getting it back on the road means that a number of parts need to be replaced otherwise is cannot be mechanically safetied. I am on the net looking for parts and I am pleasantly surprised that much, if not all, of what I need is still available. In addition I am getting the front seats reupholstered. Audi Tradition in Germany has re-released the original fabric for the seats and although it was a bit pricey I bought enough for at least one seat, the driver's, which is in bad shape. Now to find a good upholsterer. After 30 years it is time to spend some energy bringing the car up to its

The Golden Age Auto Club sponsored an antique auto show in downtown Truro (Nova Scotia) this weekend. There were over 150 cars of varying years and types and no special theme. My favorites were the old crocks from the 20s and 30s though my favorite of the show was a Studebaker Golden Hawk. My preference is for European vehicles but there were few to be found. Once I get my 82 Audi Coupe on the road I will consider showing it. I took a few pictures and thought I share some today.  These were taken with an Olympus EPL-2 and Panasonic 14-45.
